Aaah - that's not good of the hosts to do that! In general our work should be fine on PHP5, but obviously testing for all version of PHP and the myriad of configurations is almost impossible, so it's hard to be 100% sure.

Glad that you got sorted, however.

Nevermind - DOH! I had assumed my host was providing php5 since that was what it advertised as using. Updating to PHP5 allows the picker to work. DOH!

Just discovered that you had updated the theme (didn't get an email).
So, I launched a new clean wordpress copy. I manually installed the new caribou theme (from the link above) through ftp. I unzipped the file in the themes folder which created a caribou folder.

Unfortunately - All I get is a blank screen both when I preview it in the themes section and when I select it as my main theme. I get a grey screen and nothing else visible on the site.

I tried this twice now with the same results. I am glad I didn't use my main site to test this.

I've released a new version (1.0.7) of Caribou which you can download from here. It should also be showing up on Wordpress/extend shortly.

Download, extract and replace your existing copy of Caribou with this one and tell me if you have any problems.

Aha - that helps a lot - thanks.

So, can you confirm the PHP version you're using?

In fact, even better would be to do the whole phpinfo as described here: http://help.mosso.com/article.php?id=082

That way we can check a few other things here.

Sorry for the slow response by the way - been away and James has been tied up on other things lately.

Ok,
1) Tried the re-install of the theme - no go
2) Tried upgrading wp from 2.8.4 -> 2.8.6 then re-install the theme - no go
Note: when I deactivated the plugins to upgrade I got the following 2 error messages which disappeared once I re-activated the plugins after the upgrade
Warning: Wrong parameter count for class_exists() in /home1/livingc2/public_html/greenbusiness/wp-content/themes/caribou/includes/previewimagepicker.php on line 19

3)Tried a clean new install of wp 2.8.6 in a new directory with no plugins then installed caribou
These messages appear immediately after install of Caribou and have not gone away

Warning: Wrong parameter count for class_exists() in /home1/livingc2/public_html/cariboutest/wp-content/themes/caribou/includes/previewimagepicker.php on line 19

functions.php permissions are set 644

Early on you asked about permissions needing to be set right. Specifically which ones need to be set to what. Perhaps that is all this is.

4)When posting a new post on this test installation I get a red warning box below the WYSIWYG window
Warning: Wrong parameter count for class_exists() in /home1/livingc2/public_html/cariboutest/wp-content/themes/caribou/includes/previewimagepicker.php on line 19

5)Interestingly, the first two error messages regarding class_exists, do not appear on my main installation unless I deactivate all of my plugins.

In all scenarios, the previewimagepicker is not functioning.

This is all very peculiar.

My one last resort, I think, would be to delete the theme entirely from your install (switching over to something else temporarily) and then carrying out a full reinstall from scratch. Your settings should remain.

I'm wondering if you upgraded from an old version, or if something went slightly messy with a WordPress upgrade.

The picker drop down would, unless moved, typically appear at the bottom of your post editing page.

Out of curiosity, can you confirm which version of the theme you're running? It should be at least 1.0.6.

Not sure what you mean about attaching the images to the posts themselves.

I am uploading the images via the usual WP media buttons. On the occasion that I hotlink images it is still done through the WP media buttons.

As far as I can tell, I do not have an image picker drop down - where is that supposed to be?

Hi Matthew and thanks for joining - ok, a couple of things to check...

Are you attaching the images to the posts themselves?

Are you uploading using the usual WP media buttons?

Does the image picker drop down show you a list of images available to select?

Migrated messages from blog post.

November 12, 2009 7:33 pm, link

Great theme and advancements in design - making Wordpress more and more like a CMS. Describing it as complex is apropos. Took me a while to get my head around it. There are still some things that I had to guess at that are not covered in the video tutorials.

Suggestions: I strongly recommend adding a read.me file in the template that explains a)how to set it up and if there is anything you have to place elsewhere than the theme directory b)explain the relationships between categories, sections, pages, and posts.

Question: What I haven’t been able to figure out is previewimagepicker. Simply doesn’t seem to work for me - fortunately it is not a game killer for the website to lack it but it certainly would spice it up a bit. http://www.OpportunitySustainability.com

I thought it might be a 2.7 v 2.8 issue so I tried running it on a earlier platforms, but to no avail - I just kept getting illegal reference errors popping up on my admin screen. I’ve downloaded it again. Is it a file placement issue? Am I supposed to modify something? I am currently running WP 2.84 Caribou 1.0.6 with php5 and have tested it on WP 2.7-2.85. Any suggestions?

I understand this is not the place for tech support. As there seems to be little work being done lately on this site/forums/new designs, not sure if plopping down $50 is the right move. Now if you can tell me that there is an answer with a solution to my dilemma - I’m all for paying the “membership/service” fee.

Great product people.

Comment by Matthew Rochte

-------------------------------------

November 14, 2009 2:34 pm

Hi Matthew - not sure what’s going wrong with you on the preview image picker element of the theme. It will use WP’s normal uploads folders, so you need to have permissions set right so that it can create the thumbnails. However, if you can attach images to posts then all should be well.

Your images tend to be hotlinked - you need to have them within your blog for this to work, but if you can post your errors or send us a link to a screenshot we’ll log the problem.

Unfortunately in terms of support I can’t really help further unless you’re a member. We do have members and we actively check the forums, but so few have problems that there’s very little going on most of the time!
Comment by Dave Coveney

----------------------
Thanks Dave,

I've joined as a member. I've been uploading images to WP for new posts rather than hotlinking them.
Permissions, as far as I can tell are granted. 755 on the folders. And I am the admin and post as the admin.

Does any of the theme's subfolder content get moved during install? for example previewimagepicker.php (Besides leaving it where it is, I've tried placing it in the admin includes folder, in the plugins folder, the wp-includes folder - but none seemed to resolve the issue and usually sparked a flood of errors)

If need be, I can email you an admin username and password for you to log into the site.

Is there a path setting for previewimagepicker? Where is it pulling its information from? Is it an absolute path or relative path? I ask because my site has multiple domain names associated with it, though only one with respect to wordpress.
